The client was developing a product for a disease for which no treatments currently exist, and had prioritized six indication subtypes. Because the disease is highly variable it is often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Commercialization was considered for multiple international markets, including Europe, Japan, and Brazil.
To understand the patient journey and key stakeholders at each stage and to uncover the challenges and opportunities at critical decision points, research focused on patient presentation, referral pathways, diagnostic hurdles, and supportive care relationships.
Approach
Qral conducted desk research and primary market research interviews with KOLs, patients and caregivers across the countries of interest.
Because the client needed to understand the variations in the patient journey both by subtype and by country, recruiting a sufficient sample of patients and caregivers for each subtype and country was a priority. In addition to coordinating with third-party market research agencies, Qral partnered closely with country-specific advocacy groups to identify eligible participants.
Business impact
A thorough research report outlined the challenges and opportunities in the markets, highlighting commonalities and variations across subtypes and countries. The report recommended strategic solutions to increase disease awareness and overcome diagnostic challenges. The final report was presented to stakeholders across functions in multiple countries to ensure strategic alignment and communication across the organization.
